The LRC plays an important role at Ziauddin
University. Students are expected to develop lifelong
learning skills in order to keep abreast of
the rapidly accumulating medical information.
The LRC includes library, an inter-disciplinary
museum and computer-aided facilities.
All three campuses have their own library
containing textbooks, periodicals, newspapers
and general reference works related to the
programme offered by the university.
Most books are available for loan and special
restricted collections of recommended textbooks
are reserved for students. All new students are
given basic instructions in using the library.
Further help is provided when project work is
undertaken to enable students to make full use
of all library facilities. The college also subscribes
to 50 foreign/local journals of a wide range of
specialties.
Computing and Informatics
LRC is equipped with wide range of cutting edge
computing resources available to facilitate students
and staff from Mondays to Saturdays. Some of
the major facilities are word processing and
statistical analysis.
An expanding variety of electronic databases
including Medline, and other networked sources
are also available along with Internet resources.
An online search service provides access to
databases on all subjects and any items not held
in the library may be obtained at a cost on inter
library loans.
The students are encouraged to keep abreast of
the latest changes in the medical field through
the Internet and Computer Assisted Learning
Programme on CD-ROM. This supports selfdirected
and small group learning. The use of
computers permits flexible hours, and self-paced
learning.
Teaching Collections
The Anatomy and Pathology collections combine
a large of range of specimens for acquiring a basic
understanding of disease. Facilities include
teaching videos, audio visual material, poster
displays, computer-based tutorials, self-assessment
programme and interactive CD-ROM based
computer programmes.
